Western ND | Took in a 9 month old black lab a few years ago fo my sister, and got a border collie puppy about a year and a half ago. Both did the jumping thing, all I did was establish dominance with both and then a swat on the nose with a firm no cured it quick. All I have to do is say a firm no when they are doing anything I don't approve of and they quit doing it and have an ashamed look on their face. The lab still gets excited when someone new comes in the yard but kind of jumps to himself with excitement instead of on someone. He never did chew on much but the border collie would haul anything not nailed down out in the yard and sometimes chew it to nothing. Dad has had 2 border collies now and both did the same. Once they went through the teething process it pretty much ended here except for bones or toys or the occasional random tree branch they find. | |
