WC MN | In our area of the northern plains a lot of guys have grown a lot of beans over the last 5 years. In those years there was usually a time to get $9.50 or higher cash beans and that worked. Beans cost much less to grow and there is not much of a need or ROI on infrastructure as most of the time there was little to no carry in the market. Now these areas are looking at sub $7 bean bids which may end up worse yet. We can not yield our way out of those prices with soybeans. I do not know what these farmers will plant. Might be corn but fertilizer is up 25% and you also need the infrastructure up here (possibly wet corn at harvest). Perhaps wheat will pick up more acres again? Not many options. | |
