We use two 3 or a 3 & 4. This is with a 1100 model grinder.
We do the same when we have to do cornstalks.
We prefer to use CRP/Waterway hay since it takes less fuel and power to grind. don't have to worry about them sorting. But if you need to stretch your hay supply, cornstalks work too.
It may be a better to only use the stalks in the finisher ration as it is only around 5% of the ration (less to sort) vs 20%+ of the grower ration.
