SE South Dakota | Son called Friday and said baler was on fire. I asked if he got the tractor unhooked and he said yes, So I said call the the Fire Dept. and just stay away. Raced over in time to hear the tire on downwind side go boom. Nobody got hurt and nothing else burned. So it could be worse.
Was doing alfalfa baleage at the time so assuming it was a bearing failure. Baler had close to 18K bales on it. Not sure if we want to stay with Deere or maybe look at a different brand. This year we had started doing more baleage, so would like something that can handle the wet hay, This one had enough hay that wrapped around the rollers, and had the usual JD netwrap problems. Like having it wrap on the back roller and occasionally on the top roller.
