She may be right but it seems to me that when you don't doctor that eye spreads it to others. That is what you have to stop to get it under control.
She died in 1982 in her 90s so she was sharing her experience in the 1930s. I may be mistaken, but did old timers tie up a cow and put salt in their eyes? Ouch.
