There are exemptions for different freight as far as e logs use. In general, unless you are in a local radius it's pretty much this: you can drive up to 11 hrs a day, you cannot drive after the start of your day past 14 hours. You have to get at least a half hour of off duty time at some point in the first 8 hrs of your 14 hours of work day, before you are allowed to drive the rest of your 11 hrs of drive shift available.Ex- you start the morning doing a pre trip inspection at 6 am. You drive half an hour, to get your load. It takes them a while to get you loaded. You leave the shipper at 11 am, drive 2.5 hrs, get fuel on duty, then go off duty for half an hour and eat lunch. At 2:15 pm you leave. You now have 8 hours of driving left of your 11, but because the shipper took too long to load you, and you had to take a half hour off duty, you can only drive till 8:00 PM. Thus, you only got to drive for 8 hrs and 45 minutes. You are only allowed to work ( on duty + driving) 70 hrs in 8 days. You can renew your 70 hrs, at any point by taking 34 consecutive hrs off duty. Otherwise, you can recapture the first day of your 8, after midnight the 9th day. Clear as can be.....................
