sw ontario
B & C --financially it makes sense , but issues always is quality of corn/feed bought in & here anyways if you want to buy corn from elevators its board price + 25-45 cents bu........and when you start too rent out your land /sell off stuff, ect. it is the beginning of the end for many unless you are a very disciplined buyer/seller... opposite of what grain farmers think livestock, especially hog guys don't like cheap feed especially when it is under cost of production as it just gives the integratator another leg up.....My only claim too small fame started in 1977 when gov't subisidies were available too corn producers but anyone who fed there crops were exempted , I argued that feeding livestock & raising crops are different enterprises and should be treated equal....eventually Ontario Pork & Corn producers put there support behind itand in the 1980's we were able to qualify for corn subsidies like everybody else......But then again in 2006 gov't made a special ad hoc payment too corn growers ,exempting anybody that fed there corn and too appease corn growers they put in place a 5% RFS mandate and gave ethanol lobby huge bucks..... conclusion -28,000 registered pork producers in 1975 , 2017 - 1,200 with about 400 primary ones..........grains/livestock are going back to old norms , 1 bumper yr., 3 average,1- disaster like it always was before 2007
