How do you suppose they peg the currency without buying dollars? while the dollar index is a basket of currencies China is the 2nd largest economy and largest trading partner. They are buying us dollars to "peg" the exchange in doing so propping up the dollar. Do you think China owns over a trillion in US securities because of the return?
