| I raise Dorpers (a shedding /hair sheep) and would think they would be ideal for running with cattle. SE-ND has it right on the benefits. Judging by your name I guess you are in or close to my area. I don't know if you could get away without a guard animal or not. Generally, if you have coyotes at some point they will be hungry enough to come after a sheep. I wouldn't advise it but some get by without one. I would probably look at a donkey in your situation- easy to move with the cattle or sheep and they don't require any special care. The thing with the hair sheep is that they are strictly for meat production which is not bad since there is not that much of a wool market and finding someone shear can be a problem. Several breeds to choose from and many breeders in Illinois. Any ?'s drop me an email and I will see if I can help. | |
