Most of the last 5 years by now the corn market has already taken out a lot of the weather premium and we are left grasping at straws as to why the trade and the USDA is wrong. Is this year any different? Do we continue to decline into harvest? My gut says our best opportunity has passed until next spring.
I’m tending to agree with you and my larger concern is what is the basis outlook for the next 12 months or so. If this market is just reacting to a expected good to great crop then I believe the basis will act “normally” but if this market is driven by the tariff issue then I don’t see any reason why basis wouldn’t get much worse then “normal”. And that without increased competition for engines and track time from oil cars in the upper Great Plains.
