It so depends on your outlook. If the piece is of some historic value, or you're a collector and own it as an investment and not as a shooter, then by all means leave it be. If you're figuring on using it as the maker intended, clean it up, do a quality blue that will last, heck restock it if it makes you happy and shoot it till the barrel sags!

Like what one of the previous posters said the whole "leave it as you found it" thing can get to be a crock.
