In last autumn's 90K+ acre grass fire out east of town here, I learned of a very good use for p-dog towns:

They make a great escape patch in a wildland fire. They denude the land of so much vegetation, there's almost nothing to burn inside a p-dog town. Drive the truck inside the p-dog town and you can watch the fire go around you...
