Subject: RE: Gas or electric fireplace? Vented or unvented?

Southeast South Dakota
I have a 20 year old propane fireplace as backup for our heat pump and backup for the backup resistance heat in case of power failure. we have 25' ceiling in this area so large area - it is vented - but when not in use the glass is so cold inside chimney is free to outisde air) , it feels like a cold draft coming out the bottom if it is not in use. Am considering removal and not sure what to replace it with - haven't researched it a lt yet. - we use it a little - kinda nice - we could survive but I dont know how much heat it would throw without the fan (electricity) running -

Primary eason for removal would be because it is taking too much floor space indoors - and with the new TVs - thinking flat(ish) heater below and then TV above mounted, both sticking out only a few inches from wall
