One morning a Crowley ocean-going tug pulled up at the service dock, looked like their 156' model. My buddy and I looked up the specs.
This tug holds 251,700 gallons of diesel fuel.
Twin V-12 Cats, 13,456 cubic inches each, total 10,880 HP. Range should be about 12,000 miles under full load.
If you're caught in a Force 8 storm 4,000 miles from port towing a huge ship that's dead in the water you don't want to run out of fuel.
