Don't take my word for it but I think I remember something about the cab mounts on those things. Between the cables and the cab mounts being bad on the 8640 we had you had to 'slap' the shifter from 1 to 2 to get it to go in gear and also form 3 to 4 you had to slap it. If you just moved it nice and easy it wouldn't shift.
