Central South Dakota | We did a 90 mile drive this morning checking fields to see if anything would be fit to plant. We have 80 acres that may go in 5-7 days, all the rest is 7-10 days out which puts us right at a May 1 start date. That is if we don't receive any moisture that is forecast for Mon/Tues. We are basically the southern end of the HRSW belt. If we aren't in the field in the next 10 days, we have already started to discuss switching acres. Not the ideal situation for our rotations, but if we plant spring wheat too late, the heat seems to get it and yields suffer. I just keep thinking the market will take notice, but wheat always seems to be the red headed step child lately. | |
