Odds are you have several red recessive carriers in your herd. During the 50s, 60s, 70s it was not uncommon for distinguished breeders to knock red calves over the head and bury them when Red & Whites were frowned upon; they wanted to protect their reputation and did not want it to get out that their herd carried the red recessive gene. Several popular bulls were carries, and only now with genomic testing can you know with certainty which animals are red carriers, homozygous polled, CD carrier, etc.
