Subject: RE: Ceres Farms LLC?

Glasgow, Ky
Many years ago a man started buying farms in the area I lived in. He would split the farms up. I'm talking an acre or so on the road frontage the farms had. He would then do owner financing with very liberal credit requirements, basically little or no money down and just make the monthly payments. He got a lot of the ground back and just rinse and repeat. He made a sack full of money for many years. It upset a lot of farmers because he drove the land prices sky high in the area and few farmers could compete with him.

He did nothing illegal, just upset a lot of people. Many hated him but he just kept right on buying and making money. Planning and zoning would pass laws to try and stop the carnage. No such luck.

Point is that we live in a country where we have certain freedoms. The only way to prevent "outsiders" from owning land and driving up prices is to pass laws limiting who can own land and what they can do with it. Do we want to go there? Otherwise we just have to accept it as part of the free enterprise system we are privileged to have and make the best of it.

One other thing, everything is relative to where you are in life. Young person wants cheap land. Older person retiring generally wants top dollar for their retirement nest egg. The idea that looks good when you are young might not look good when you are old.
