south of hells kitchen -- central Midwest | Had a couple calves this past spring in one pasture like that. Called and described it to the vet and for these it was diagnosed as Type A Chlostridial (normally vaccinate for type B). I had mistaken it for pneumonia and treated as such with no improvement in 8 hours so that's why I consulted with the vet. First time I had any experience with it and saved both, but deadly if not treated in time, and while not necessarily contagious, it is soil-borne so would need to monitor other calves in this age range closely. And vaccinate for it next season.
