Subject: 3950 earlage feed pan question

Working on setting my 3950 up for earlage this year. I have been using my 830 ih 2 row and was hoping to run my 343 Jd head to be alittle faster or just run both outfits. I have the head, the head adapter plate, and a line on a cracker plate. If it makes a difference the 3950 has metal guard on it.

My question is on the feed roll pan. On my ih you unhook the drive to the front lower feed roll then put a plate between the rolls and block them open maybe another inch or two with tall spacers. Looking in the jd parts book what they call a feed roll pan goes under the front lower feed roll and then still drives with no spacers?

The factory pan looks to hook into the frame rod that the head wedges go against and the into a subframe above the smooth feed roll?

I presume that you want to run the LOC on the shortest slowest drive gear?

Thanks for the help!
