Can you imagine the countless hours of time people will spend dealing with the impact of this theft, plus those who will incur financial loss from the use of the stolen identity. Just because "all that information is already out there" doesn't excuse Equifax from being liable to every single person who had identity information stolen. Putting up some website to find out if yours was compromised isn't enough. They've got all this information, they can contact each person individually if they wanted to. So what if they have to spend millions upon millions to do so.
These companies like Equifax want to be the big know-it-all outfits and want to have all this identity information. They become huge targets, and I have zero confidence they did everything possible to protect that information. They want all that information so they can make a profit.
I hope Equifax is financially destroyed from all the lawsuits as result of this theft. Why would anyone continue to trust them?
Being "sorry for any inconvenience" just doesn't cut it. | |
