Absolutely. This may be just the things you will really benefit from. Aside from that, amputation may still end up with a wound that won't heal well requiring wound therapy. Do what you can to keep those sugars down, the feet protected with good diabetic socks, well fitting shoes. Don't want them to start cutting if you can avoid it.
