I just smoked a tri-tip roast. Man, it was larapin! Fell apart with a fork.
Take a aluminum foil turkey pan, flop in the roast after rolling it around in your favorite dry rub and sea salt and smoke it at about 275 for a couple hours. Then cover with foil and cook until it reaches 140ish in the middle. Let it rest a bit and slice.
