I think using statewide averages for rainfall and temperature is a flawed system. A .5 rain on my farm is not equal to .5 on a different farm in a different part of the state. A 1 inch rain on June 1 is not equal to a 1 inch rain on June 30. The same could be said for temperature. I think it is true that things would average out but I think your data set is to small to get the averaging out to show.
