SW MO | Around here, that would mean fescue. It kind of started after 2012 when the fescue actually died, and when a neighbor had gramoxone drift and kill fescue on another farm. Burndown is reccomended, but doesn't have to happen. If you time your grazing off right, you don't have to burn down, just if rye gets too rank/mature the cows wont eat it. We should probably get some novel endophyte fescue in, but none of that seems to make much compared to KY31. The cows do much better than they did on the KY-31, and we can make high quality hay and a lot of it very quickly. We made 356 bales of hay the first of this month on just over 50 acres. | |
