Been in equipment manufacturering for 10 years and never hear of AR36 or AR50. We stock AR400, AR500, and Hardox 500 at work. Regular steel is A36 (14 ga only), A572 Gr50(1/4" up), and A1011 Gr50 (12ga thru 7 ga). A36 used to be the norm in steel, now everything is Grade 50, not aware of any steel suppliers that stock A36 anymore, we can't even get it if we want to order it; only available in 14ga, which coincidentally is not available in grade 50. Thus it appears that your salesman is misinformed or more like trying to sell on fear that competition may wear out. If CTI cannot get it, no one can.

FWIW grade 50 is getting harder to find as manufacturers are shifting to more grade 80 in there designs. The stronger steels are more wear resistant. Sounds like a salesman to me.
