Another way to store them is 'knit' or 'tie' the tops into a piece of heavy twine.
Baler or binder twine works.
Hang the bunches in your cool dry storage place and when you want one to use just pull it out of the string.
We tied in bunches with twine and stored in the cellar. We no longer have a cellar or onions to store.
