Buffalo trace is pretty good, Makers mark 46, Gentelmen jack... the higher end stuff is definitely smooth so you are on the right track. I drink mine with plenty of ice and a splash of water. BUT as a diligent college student I was broken in on plenty of crap liquor and coke. I can see how it's pretty hard to just jump in on bourbon straight.
