Altitude is your friend as far as signal goes.  As someone else mentioned, set your return to home altitude a good 30 - 50 feet higher than you think your tallest obstruction would be so in the chance it has to come home on its own, it does so safely.  Remember, that height is NOT true, it is relative to your takeoff point which is= 0 ft as far is it knows.
