N FLA | I can still get a little almost free hay. I started hauling last week and will be back for more this weekend it looks like.
I did some math, and we had 40" last calendar year, which is 15" below average. Also in the last 365 days we have had 40". This is all a little skewed because we had 13" in September. I would say except for September we have been dry for the last 18 months. We never got the la nina winter they had in alabama and Georgia last year. I had a lot of good grazing on just a couple inches of rain in January. But that was about it for the winter.
I rented 100 acres on 2 farms for the summer pasture and neither has had a cow for 2 years, although it is old brown grass. I am trying to get moved over there and will be ahead of most that have been feeding hay and grazing their pastures. Been repairing fence and water to get ready.
I agree and would like to sell ahead of more significant drought. Looks like not many buyers, so probably the same story all around.
