Subject: RE: When to fertilize winter wheat

King City, Mo
I do mine twice typically.

Once at green up depending on the number of tillers. Broadcasted the wheat last fall so holding off as I've got a better then expected stand. If tillers was low we
Would push more N to encourage tillers.

Then I spread again when the wheat is taller and right before the boot stage. This puts more N into the head. If we put the N out too early it can cause you to have lodged wheat as it alot goes to the straw.

With this program I've raised 80-100bu wheat.

Phil Needham has a great book to reference if you google his webpage.
