Central PA | I picked up a farm that was fallow last year. The landowner wants no insecticides, including seed treatments. To get untreated seed I had to go with non-GMO. It was a mess of mostly foxtail last year, with some marestail, canada thistle, jimsonweed, and a healthy stand of dandelion underneath it all. It's a much heavier soil than everything else I farm, but I think it will produce well. I have a cover crop of rye, triticale, hairy vetch, winter peas, crimson clover and rapeseed growing in it right now. I'm thinking I'll go with Roundup, 1.5 pints of Cinch ATZ, & 1 pint of Banvel pre-emerge then follow with Status and Accent Q or Steadfast Q postemerge. Would there be any advantage to throwing Basis Blend or Sharpen/Verdict in the burndown? The Verdict seemed to help a bit on the rapeseed last year. I really want to get everything under control to go to rye in the fall. | |
