Feed only ensiled feed to milking cows. I do think you can feed to much corn silage, there is a grain component to it, but would depend a lot on what else you are feeding. Many guys feed a lot of corn silage because it is a relatively easy and thus cheap to put up they would probably have to add dry hay or straw.

It is a lot better IMO to have consistend high quality feed, which ensiling allows you to do, and have to add straw or dry hay for fiber, then it is to have lower quality forages and have to add more grain.

We buy straw for dry cows for potassium reasons. Don't grow wheat but if I did would spread my own straw and still buy wheat.
