Selk guy is wrong, co2 has nothing to do with lactic acid. They're both the products of anaerobic respiration, lactic acid isn't being formed from co2.

I understand the logic, but the half life of lactic acid is only like 30 min, so within an hour any lactic acid accumulated during birth should be mainly gone.

I'm a believer that cattle guys do too much with calves when they're born. Leave them alone and they'll be fine the vast majority of those times. You have a good 6 hours to get the full value of colostrum and up to 24 hours to get some absorption. That first hour isn't a huge deal.
