IF the wall was sized before they put the paper on it will come off easy. As said scoring helps tons. When all else fails and taking off the paper is gouging the walls anyway,,,an alternative is to go right over it with 1/4" drywall, tape and finish and your better off "SOMETIMES"

Works good over plaster walls too when the concern is not to lose your pretty original woodwork(which never fits back on after a plaster lathe tear off) AND original paint on walls wont adhere to new paint,,,sheds like an old buck deer. Forgot the name of that old paint but its bad news.
