mx210guy - 3/13/2017 15:17   My cost for a pig from start to finish is 150 so roughly 90 US. That includes all expenses. The key is to minimize your variable costs and maximize the value you are getting from your fixed. All the big farms are producing 28+ pigs per year some 30. Getting the right facilities and management practices to produce the most amount of pork/sow is the best ROI.




According to the exchange rates I'm finding online $150 CAD is approximately $111 USD

$111/hd would still be a pretty cheap break even but not as crazy cheap as $90 would be.
 

The past few groups we have been needing $125-140 per head to cover all costs.

A couple of the groups that were at the upper end of that range had health problems that translated to death loss and performance problems.
