Subject: RE: Koehn electric drive thru gates...

NESD
We have two of them for winter feeding of stock cows. One provides access to a hay storage yard, the other one to the field we feed on. They are great and save a lot of trips in and out of the tractor. I don't know how well they would work in a confined area. They do not latch open as they are spring loaded. Sometimes we tie them open with twine. They will blow in the wind some, but it seems like the cows are trained to stay away from them. I have used twine on ocassion to tie them together so they don't blow open if I'm not gonna drive through them for several days. In 15+ years I have never seen a cow get shocked by one, so I think they would respect them without current. (Dog has been shocked.) If you install one, I recommend putting a simple way to disconnect the power so as to make it easy to service or tie open to remove snow etc...
