South West MN | Well it is a cattle headger's wet dream out there this week. Headge cattle for a profit at $115 board goes to $116 so get out of your april headge at a loss of $400. Sell your cattle a few weeks early and a 100 lb light for $127. End up making an extra $4400 after paying the man. If this continues for long april cattle are going to go threw the roof as there will be none left. Just shows how broken the system is, this time in our favor. So here is my fix. 1 CME should be based off of hanging weigh not live. Pigs are. 2 weights should have a window of 775-950. 3 there should be contract for every month. If there was a March contract it would be at $125 today. they would also have to be some sort of grading system set in place, maybe only one select or hard bone per load.Any ideas out there? | |
