NW Iowa-Lyon | As of 7 am this morning my final two ewes lambed. The one had quads with a still born and the other had quintuplets with two still born.
Running the numbers I lambed 61 ewes and had a 179 lamb drop. Which put me at a 293% drop and as of right now I am at a 236% live lambs on the ground. Ended up with a 19% death rate. Which I am not happy with but what do u do when u have a number of still borns. I only lost 10 that were born alive which puts that at 6%. The death loss is just something I am going to have to work on harder for next year.
Plan going head for next year is to have a rough lamb count when I ultrasound the ewes to have a better control on how much grain I need to be feeding. Another thing is to try harder to put up alfalfa correctly so I can start feeding that sooner in the last trimester.
