KY | Alright, tried this stockpiling idea I've heard about, I have about 18 acres of fescue and timothy with a little sage brush in there for good measure, its all dead and brown now, and matted in a few places from high winds and heavy rains. I turned some cows in it yesterday, and they are burning the hay up still. The hay does look more appealing to me, but will they eat the pasture grass if i withhold the hay? I don't want to put them in a bad way with calving just starting. I keep out 24% protein tubs and hand feed them every few days, hay is going to run short at the rate I'm feeding it, was hoping this grass would stretch that out at least a little. | |
