Subject: RE: Forage Oats vs Forage Barley for hay

Central Alberta
If feeding grow a forage oat the stems may be thick but the cattle will still eat them. On the same land oats have higher tonnage than barley. If put up right the cattle eat them about the same. The barley has slightly better feed value. So the total feed value per acre are about the same. I grow oats because I sell most of the bales. If Iam selling oats or barley bales for the same price per bale I might as well grow something that yields 10% more.
