Just bid to your limit and don't pull out your bidder card till they yell sold. Other guy will subconsciously take it as a challenge and hit it one more time.

We don't buy from dealers so no salesman advice here. One piece of advice that covers anything. Don't be an asshole. At auctions it gets you ran up and at dealers no one will feel obligated to give you a deal. I bought a 3/4 drive craftsman socket set just because the opposing bidder is a dick and I didn't want him to get a deal. It was still a good deal luckily. I was bidding on behalf of karma that day...
