I agree with your thinking. How often do the markets trend lower during the last half of Feb? I don't know the answer to this but I typically pay pretty close attention to what is happening during Feb, when they are setting the crop insurance prices. It seems  to me that typically we start out Feb. pretty strong and than in the last half of the month prices fall and pull the average down. It also seems like 80% of the time prices are lower in the fall when we start harvesting than they are when we are setting the crop insurance prices. No matter what the market is going to do we will lose the carry by the time we get to fall.
