Subject: Not D John Deere - General Purpose

Dallas Center IA 515-720-2463
The tractor is a John Deere, but not a model D.

Look at the final drive at the right edge of the platform.
Also the placement of the air intake stack on the left side of the engine.
Right side of the engine. Both models D and GP of the era did not have a tall exhaust pipe. But a short defector.
But some farmers welded on tall exhaust pipes.
Not sure, but the 'Exhaust'Pipe' may just be a wood post in the ground beyond the tractor.
The wide rear wheels make it look like a D. But there are extensions on the wheels.

Model General Purpose, often called GP.

Other tractors are McCormick Deering Model 10-20, or 15-30 or 22-36. Not W-30 or 40.

Don’t try this at home boys and girls!
Looks like an often used means of getting un-struck.
That is putting post, logs, planks under the stuck wheel.
Wheel grabs the post and lifts itself out.

Saw my Dad log chain a post to each rear wheel of a WC once.
It will lift the stuck tractor right up.

But problems:
Tractor is geared too fast. May not have enough power.

At the end of just a wee bit of wheel rotation the wood will hit something on the tractor.

And worst. Wheel just might stay put, but the tractor rotate. Flipping over. Not very good for the guy in the seat.
