NC Iowa

i have been doing some research of family history also. any idea why they chose to immigrate? i am not found any definite reason yet for mine. i suppose that family and others from the area already here was a big part of decision, especially if they were doing well.

my family came in 1868 from emden germany and settled in the german baptist community of aplington iowa. some also settled in george iowa. i read the voyage took about 40 days and they were berthed 'between decks'. i think i read it cost $38, but not sure right now. i did find a picture of the ship. a lot of information out there on the internet.

here is a picture of the ship they came on. the bark, tuisko.
