Subject: Cummins 855 Possible Head Gasket Failure

Got the 855 350 Formula BC4 of my Ford L9000 in the shop tore down. Had coolant in the oil and oil in the coolant.

Oil cooler is new. It's been checked and there is no compression entering the cooling system.

I filled it with water and cranked it over with the pan off. I got down and was inspecting everything when water poured out in a steady stream onto the ground, and me. I think it came from the #1 piston cooler nozzle.

The head of it is now off. I found an oil port in the block near two water ports that leads to the piston cooler nozzle. I poured water directly into the port and had the same effect, of water pouring onto the ground. I'm thinking that the head gasket may have allowed them to mix. When the engine is running, forcing oil into the cooling system, and when the engine is off, water into the oil. I think a new head gasket will fix this.

Thoughts?
