When I was a kid I knew a couple of girls that chewed actual tobacco, not this girly man Copenhagen stuff. I wouldn't have wanted to kiss either of them, though, and not just because of the tobacco. :-) Having said that, when I was a kid many of the older ladies in the community (my grandmother and others in her age bracket) dipped snuff (Tops, Garrett, etc. the powdered stuff), and they spit. In fact, one lady I knew was accurate enough to hit a coffee can from at least 10 feet away. Never knew her to miss. They would usually take a Sweet Gum twig and chew the end until frayed, wet it with spit, dip it in the snuff and use that to poke it either in their bottom lip or along the back of their lower jaw. This was mostly women born before WWI. Never knew of any born later that dipped.
