Personally, I would leave it as a ground drive system. We rebuild our 7000 8RN every year as its pretty simple and cheap to do. The 7000 planter ground drive system by design will variable rate your populations for you depending upon soil conditions, which we didn't discover until about 4 years ago when we installed the 20/20 system on the planter. If you do plan on converting it to a variable rate planter for fine tuning your planting populations or variable rating specific zones in the field, I would suggest electric drives as they are your row shutoffs and variable rate system in one, plus there are no hydraulics to worry about.
