If you looks at businesses and the life cycles of businesses you will see a trend of consolidation when profits get squeezed. This consolidations continues until the companies get big enough to control the market place and eliminates a good share of competition. Just look around at whats happening in the farm equipment business and a lot of retailing. The problem with this it makes it tougher for the low capital entrepreneur and the independent business person. This could and is happening in agriculture today where the low equity person just plain get out capitalized by large conglomerates or investor financed companies.
