Changing from one crop to another is very simple in most cases, just move a lever and maybe change the door on the seed cup if you seed sizes changes greatly. As mentioned you might need slow down the seed meter for some crops like beans. The opener disc bearing lash-up is not the best and changing bearing can be a pain. Otherwise it is just a plain ordinary grain drill whose design has not changed much for many years. It is made to seed into prepared seed beds so don't think about no-tilling.
I actually think John Deere makes or made a better end wheel drill than the 5100.
